Auto-Guide accurately steers the tractor without the driver touching the wheel
11/06/2005Valtra is introducing an automatic guidance system, Auto-Guide, as an option on T Series tractors. Auto-Guide is based on GPS satellite navigation technology and is capable of automatically steering the tractor with great accuracy; to within a few centimetres, without intervention by the driver.
Available through Valtra’s customer ordering system from 2006 the operator can choose between three levels of accuracy according to farming requirements. The most precise option can steer tractors to within a few centimetres, while the least expensive option is accurate to within half a metre. Auto-Guide accuracy can be further enhanced by utilising a local base station
The Auto-Guide package includes a cab display screen, control unit in the engine compartment and a satellite antenna on the cab roof. When turning on the headland, the driver controls the tractor as usual, but when travelling up the field the Auto-Guide system takes over the steering, allowing the driver to focus on fine-tuning speed and implement control.
Auto-Guide helps the driver in his work and frees him to concentrate on his implements. The system saves fuel and time, as the entire width of the implements can be fully utilised. The amount of pesticides, seeds, fertiliser and other materials is also reduced. Crop quality and yield also improve as precise coverage of the field is guaranteed without gaps or overlaps, and as unnecessary wheelings are avoided, crop loss through compaction is reduced.
Auto-Guide makes it possible to work at night and in dusty or foggy conditions, regardless of visibility.
