Herlevi family makes another clean sweep in the Finnish Tractor Pulling Championships 2004

Johanna Herlevi once again took the top position, while the positions of Pekka Herlevi and Matti Herlevi were reversed this year, Pekka now taking second and Matti third place. At the beginning of this season, the Herlevi family set their sights on one, two or possibly three medals at the Finnish Championships. As it turned out, they achieved their most ambitious goals.

The ultimate round of the Finnish Championships was decided on Sunday 18.7.2004 in Tyrnävä in front of around 6000 spectators. Going into the weekend’s competition, Johanna had already claimed the title of Finnish Champion, as the only other member of the Herlevi family to compete in the Pro Stock 3500 class was Matti, who was third in the points. Matti’s first-round pull of 69.78 metres was enough to claim victory in the class, as the competitors did not take a second run. Pekka and Matti also tested the Pro Stock 4500 class, in which Pekka was first and Matti second.

“The Tyrnävä track was too dry, so there was very little grip. We participated in the event mainly to test the new turbo in Caesar for the Eurocup competition next weekend. These Finnish events are good places to try out new things with the tractors before the bigger international competitions. The local events could do with more competitors in order to make them more exciting,” Pekka Herlevi commented.

The Herlevi family will participate in the next Eurocup event in Herning, Denmark, on 24-25.7.2004.

“It’s clear that we have to aim to take the top positions. In other words, we’re going into the event hoping for another 1-2-3 finish, despite the tough competition,” Pekka Herlevi summarised.
