Valtra and SisuDiesel attract over 150 journalists from around the world
01/31/2007Over 150 international members of the press were on hand for the launch of the new T Series and the opening of the R&D Centre in Suolahti on 17-18 January. At the same time the journalists took the opportunity to visit the SisuDiesel engine plant in Linnavuori.
Michael Hornborg, President of Finland’s Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK), cut the ribbon at the opening of Valtra’s new R&D Centre together with AGCO President and CEO Martin Richenhagen.
“Incredibly modern factories in the middle of nowhere!”
Altogether journalists arrived from 28 countries around the world. Their articles appeared in even more countries, as many journalists write for several publications. Television crews were also present, as were radio journalists. Most reporters came from Europe, but other regions were also represented, including China.
On the first day the visitors were shown the SisuDiesel engine plant, where investments worth 30 million euros have recently been completed. Many of the journalists also expressed interest in the fact that SisuDiesel’s common rail engines can now use a 20-percent mix of biodiesel and all other SisuDiesel engines up to 100-percent diesel.
The journalists then attended the opening of Valtra’s new R&D Centre in Suolahti. Speaking at the opening ceremonies Michael Hornborg, President of Finland’s Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK), described how Finnish farmers and Valtra have worked together closely for decades.
The press conference was opened by AGCO President and CEO Martin Richenhagen, who stated that Valtra’s Suolahti factory was the most efficient tractor plant in the world. AGCO’s and Valtra’s directors openly answered reporters’ questions about a number of topics, including the follow-up to the S Series and Valtra’s own continuously variable transmission that it has designed in-house. Both the new S Series and the new CVT transmission will be launched in 2008.
In the two weeks following the press conference approximately 2000 other guests came to see the new T Series, R&D Centre and factory, including customers, salespeople and other stakeholders from a number of countries.
